Day to Day Activities

Sunday
Guests arrive Sunday afternoon, get settled in and enjoy dinner while getting to know your fellow guests.

Monday
On Monday you will be introduced to your horse. You will also be issued your tack (saddle, saddle blanket, bridle, halter, etc). You'll be shown the cowboy way to use your horse and tack. This will make your vacation more enjoyable. One very important thing to always remember...the Cross M Ranch is NOT a dude ranch. Our horses are all working cow horses, not the horses you see on a dude ranch following each other around. As long as you are willing to learn the skills, are fit enough to get on and off your horse and are ready and willing to learn in the saddle, we can teach even the greenest novice how to manage a horse. You can learn to rope, work cattle and how to teach and apply basic horse training techniques.  Always remember, if you are having any trouble, need a little more help or instruction, we are more than happy to lend a helping hand or give you a little advice.

Tuesday thru Saturday
For the next 5 days of your visit, you will be participating in all the general ranch duties that make a Montana ranch successful. We will be riding and checking for strays, doctoring cattle, moving and sorting the livestock, checking water, putting out salt and mineral for good herd health and making sure all the fences are in good repair.

Sunday
The last day...There is no riding on Sundays since this is the day we change guests. Everyone will get up and enjoy one last top-notch breakfast before saying their good-byes and departing by 10:30 AM.

Accomodations

We have a very comfortable ranch-style bunkhouse here at the Cross M headquarters. It has 4 private rooms with double occupancy, as either 2 singles or 1 king. The bunkhouse also has 2 bathrooms with showers and a day room to kick back in.

Meals

Very delicious and nutritious meals are prepared and served at a common table with everyone, including all the guests, owners and ranchhands, joining together for lively conversation about the day.  You will find that the meals are much the same as served to the cowboys of years gone by. The hearty dishes made for dinner and supper will feature meat, potatoes, vegetables, various salads, breads and homemade desserts. Some of the recipes used are borrowed from the famous roundup cooks from the 1800's. With advanced notice, Diana will gladly prepare meals with special dietary needs, if needed.
